Warmachine Game

Trevor and I had a game yesterday. It was a bit of a learning game. For example, I learned that I could hide models behind swamp pits by filling said swamp pit and hiding the rest of my army behind it. I also learned how to throw properly. Trevor learned many things, but I can’t speak for him. I will say that the game was boring, and I believe that to be because I was hiding in swamp pits to get Barnabas across the board. I’m not really certain how else I could have gotten across the board against Trevor’s very strong ranged damage. I picked up Maelok to see how I enjoy playing him – if nothing else I’ll learn how to get across the board without my precious swamp pits.

No pics, Trevor did not want his unpainted models showcased, which is fair.

Hm, we need some more content on here.

Okay, if you’ve been reading I wanted to apologize for the lapse in content. I will be making an effort to post at least once a week. As I get used to updating it should be more often. I wanted to comment on a couple of things this week.

Most of the recent rumors regarding xenos armies have turned out to come from a crappy source. Ghost21 admitted on Warseer that he made it all up. I’m disappointed, but I was surprised at the response over at Warseer. Something like that shouldn’t be tolerated nearly as well. I had been excited for getting back into my Tau and was excited for what seemed like a really strong year for 40k.

With 2012 being the 25th anniversary for 40k we’re almost certain to see 6th edition. I really like what the playtest leak is trying to do with the game. I’ve come to the conclusion that I like Privateer Press skirmish games quite a bit. This ruleset incorporated many of the same mechanics. Charging during movement? Check. Emphasis on squad leaders? Check. The change up to the turn orders was interesting as well. I like the ideas presented and would love to see most of it make the cut.

I’ve finished my first Hordes model, I don’t have a decent photo yet, but I’ll try getting it up soon. The base gave me more trouble than I thought it would, the resin bases are intended for some water effects. I came across a couple problems when basing a larger model. The water effects were difficult to apply and I used a varnish afterward to seal the base model, this ruined the water effects that went in the right spots. So, in the future I’ll know to seal the model first.

Enough rambling, pictures from my game with Trev tomorrow.

Proxycroning

Had my first game of crontastic dice rolling this evening. Marc and I played a 1,000 point game. I was proxying my face off as the doom scythe is not out and my ghost arc assembly skills leave much to be desired.

I was more than impressed with my first xenos experience. Doom scythes are something I feel like are going to be quite amazing. Imotekh is under priced based on my vast experience playing with him. I am convinced he is pretty much a metallic Zeus striking lightning around the table, plus night fighting saving my doom scythe from Marc’s pesky long fangs. I ended up pulling off a win, and I greatly appreciate Marc humoring my ghost rhinos and the 2 hour long game!

I felt pretty scrubtastic for having to look up rules every turn, I keep forgetting how horrible my memory is… get it? I am definitely committing myself to playing at least once more before year end, and trying to memorize my stat profiles. Currently I am thinking my 1750 list (our typical size) will be:

Imotekh (zaps and obscuration)
3 ghost arcs with warriors x 10 ( objectives / gauss spams, 1 squad with 9 so Imo can ride with)
3 x 5 deathmarks (throw away distraction unit / anti MC)
2 doom scythes (anti armor / anti hordes)
3 canoptek scarabs swarms (2×4 1×3, bubble wrap / anti armor)
1747/1750

My realistic goal is to be fully assembled minus doom scythes before second wave, and fully painted by the end of March. Feel free to send in any emails telling me how awful my list sounds or maybe some paint scheme ideas involving red. Thanks all and I hope you have a great holiday season.

Bone Dice deep thoughts: other people playing your games

In the middle of a game with marc and two people are constantly giving advice. One is giving legit advice, but another is essentially try to play my army.

I can’t express how maddening that is. I was having a fairly enjoyable game until this unasked for intervention. I still did what I wanted to, but I had to stand here for 10mins while this guy was droning on about what I should do.

Airbrushed Reaper

I used my new Valejo air paints to paint a reaper!

Reaper

Reaper

I painted the bronze and gore on by hand, but the rest is all air brush! Very cool. I am still working on getting my skills up, but I am very happy with the way this came out.

Privateer Press customer support: The Awaking

I just submitted my first customer support request with privateer press. I have an old Nightmare stat card. I am not sure if it is the same as the MKII card so I figured I would just request a new one. I’ll document how the process goes!

First thoughts: the web form for replacement parts is simple to use and I like that it generates a ticket that you can check status on.
